Where it Began
Two friends. One handmade bag. And an idea neither of us saw coming.
POLA Leather wasn’t born in a boardroom or dreamed up as a business plan. It started between two friends and a genuine appreciation for making something with your own hands.
Mike made a leather bag for a company fishing trip. Later, he made a wallet for Lee as a Christmas gift.
There was something different about it. The feel of real leather. The craftsmanship. The character. The little imperfections that made it unmistakably one of a kind.
That wallet sparked an idea:
What if we could make things the way we believed they should be made?
Not mass-produced. Not designed to be replaced next year. And never made simply because it was faster or cheaper.
That idea became POLA Leather.
Today, every POLA piece still begins the same way—with the leather itself.
We don’t simply grab a hide and start cutting. We look at it. We study the grain, the scars, the markings, and the character. We search for the part of the hide that will make that particular piece special.
Sometimes, the most interesting part of a hide is exactly the part someone else might cut around.
We don’t see imperfections. We see a story. Then we build.
We cut, stitch, burnish, and finish each piece by hand with the understanding that someone is going to carry it, use it, travel with it, work with it—and make it their own.
Because the story doesn’t end when we finish making it.
That’s when yours begins.
The leather will darken. It will soften. It will develop marks from the places you’ve been and the life you’ve lived. What leaves our hands as a POLA will become unmistakably yours.
No two pieces begin exactly alike. And after years of use, no two ever will.
